The Rome from which we must win souls for Christ

Dr Bob Jones, Late Chancellor, Bob Jones University, Greenville, SC 29614, USA.
Wilson Ewin

One who has never lived in a predominantly Roman Catholic country cannot comprehend the character of that church in French Canada or Latin America, Southern Ireland, or rural Spain; but these areas offer a rich field, white unto harvest, for those who would gather souls for our Lord. In fact, I find, generally, a real hunger for Christ among many Roman Catholics everywhere in the world and a sense among them that they have been deceived, exploited and offered stones instead of bread by the Church of their fathers. Wherever Romanism has a monolithic grip upon the populace, she will use every weapon against the soulwinner who goes out, Bible in hand, to let the light of the Scripture shine into the hearts of her people; but when a Roman Catholic is brought into the light of the Gospel and to a simple faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ, he will give a vigorous and outspoken testimony as to what God has done for him and will, in turn, seek to free others from the bondage that held him so long in ignorance of the truth.

As we come toward the end of the age, there are many devices being employed for the building of the great church of Antichrist. Rome will be part of it and, indeed, largely dominate the scene. All the rest are amateurs and Johnny-come-latelies in comparison to Rome with her centuries of experience and intrigue with the kings of the earth and her lengthy record of intolerance and persecution.

There have been a number of books dealing with the Catholic Church on the market in recent years. Some are seemingly critical of the church and various forces within it; however, the author of several of these books, Malachi Martin, is still in the Church of Rome and, apparently, remains a Jesuit priest. While there is, therefore, a cry on the part of some for reform in the Church of Rome, they still look on this ecclesiastical fraud as Christ's Church.

One thing is certain: The Catholic Church is to be a major factor in the church of the Antichrist under the domination of the false prophet. One thing is certain: The Catholic Church is to be a major factor in the church of the Antichrist under the domination of the false prophet. Apostate Christianity and pagan religions will undoubtedly be a part of this world church of Antichrist and its delusions, seeming miracles, and the mark of the Beast imposed upon a large part of the earth's inhabitants. Who has had more experience over the centuries in promoting this kind of satanic delusion upon the world than the Church of Rome?

The charismatic movement with all its strong delusions, denial of doctrine, rejection of Biblical truth, and the exploitation of shallow and sensual emotionalism will provide the cement that shall hold together the church of Antichrist. Charismatism is ecumenism based on sentimentality, doctrinal ignorance or rejection, and the results always attendant upon those who will lend themselves so willingly to an unbiblical and irrational emotionalism that refuses to be governed by the authority of God's holy Word.
